The Bunny The Bear - The Stomach For It

The Bunny The Bear are a hard band to peg. The music is so sporadic and downright weird, it's almost abrasive to hear the first time through. One moment your listening to electronic music, the next your in a straight hardcore breakdown. Atop this all is half screamed, half growled vocals and falsetto Coheed and Cambria styled singing. "Oh Lord this is absolutely revolting, and at the same time I find it hilarious." This lyric is heard very early on in the album, although revolting is a bit of a harsh word, replace it with weird and you'll get my initial feelings of the album. But that's what the band is going for. They are definitely bringing something new to the table here, and they seem to be doing well for it.

New Make Them Suffer Song 'Elegies'!

Make Them Suffer posted another new track from their upcoming album Neverbloom. It's called 'Elegies' and it is pretty awesome. This new album is shaping up to be a stellar debut LP for the band, who are already making  some pretty big waves.

Quick Tool Update!

So it's been forever since the last Tool album as everyone knows, and the band has said a few times this year that they are working on the next album. However as we all probably can gather that process is going rather slowly. Tool, being one of the biggest bands in metal, can actually afford to take this long and still make tons of money. Loudwire has an article stating that Danny Cary, in a recent trip to the school of rock in LA said that the band has the framework for about 5 good songs done. So about half the album is practically written!

The band is expected to enter the studio sometime this summer to start recording with an album release expected for sometime at the end of the year. Lets hope it doesn't get pushed to early next year. We've already waited too long.

Film Score Friday - Video Game Special - Mass Effect 3

While Video Games still have yet to produced photorealistic graphics (although in 5-10 years they might.) The medium itself has gotten more and more film like in storytelling and budget over the years. The score for games also shares many similarties to films, so I felt this exception to the article wasn't too far fetched.

So without further ado, this weeks entry is the Mass Effect Soundtrack featuring the awesome Clint Mansell, who is a film composer, Sam Hulick, Christopher Lennertz, Cris Velasco, Sascha Dikiciyan, and an extra song by a band called Faunts.

To Speak Of Wolves - Find Your Worth, Come Home

I've been waiting for this release for a while now. I was so taken by To Speak Of Wolves debut album Myself > Letting Go. It channeled Underoath, but with a more aggressive tone and was overall a fantastic debut, that met with a bit of an underwhelming response. One vocalist change and two years later Two Speak Of Wolves are back with their sophomore release entitled Find Your Worth, Come Home. The album continues the sound they established and adds influence from the likes of Oh, Sleeper (and a guest vocal spot from Micah Kinard), Underoath and Norma Jean's newer stuff.

Whitechapel Post Vocals Studio Update!

As June 19th gets closer I get more and more excited. Today Whitechapel have posted their 3rd studio update video showcasing one of the best aspects of their music, Phil Bozeman's vocals. Phil's arguably one of the best vocalists in metal today. Dudes got a voice.

New Dying Fetus Track!

There's no denying that Dying Fetus' upcoming album Reign Supreme is one of the years hotly anticipated albums in the world of metal. It's been almost 3 years since we've had an album from these guys which is more than enough time in many peoples eyes.

Becoming The Archetype Started Recording!

(Because they don't have a band photo with Chris McCane yet.)

Becoming The Archetype, who released an excellent album last year which ranked on my top 15 albums list, saw the departure of Jason Wisdom a few months ago and the recruitment of Chris McCane who did a great if not short job on the bands single 'O' Holy Night' last Christmas. As of yesterday the band has gone into the studio to record a follow up to Celestial Completion. Fans of the band are holding their hopes because Jason's shoes are quite large and difficult to fill, but from live videos and the Christmas single, I think Chris will do a good job filling in and maybe bring a new spice to the band. Here's to hoping!

On Recently Slow News...

It's been a bit slow round these parts lately, and I have to apologize for that. It's partly because my laptop died and I was out of town for  a week, then summer school started and work and yada yada... I however want to reassure you that this one man new shows is not going anywhere. Things should pick up again soon. Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Moth Announce 'Endlessly In Motion'!

Moth are a band you might not have heard of yet, but you might soon. The band will be releasing their debut full length album titled Endlessly In Motion on August 3rd, and I can say I've very excited. Firstly, you should familiarize yourself with the band really quick. Follow this link and play the three songs they've had up for a while now.

Film Score Friday! Alan Silvestri - The Avengers

So the Avengers came out recently and has done quite well for itself so far speaking as a film as a whole. I've seen it twice now and can say it's stellar performance is well deserved. The film is witty, action packed, and practically flawless if you ask me. It's easily one of the best superhero/comic based films to date. The film released both a soundtrack and an album of songs 'inspired' by the film. Obviously the latter sold much better because of the big names on there, Soundgarden most notably. But today we'll be taking a look at Alan Silvestri's work on the film.

Arbiter's Unreleased And Forgotten!

So if you follow my blog, even remotely, you've probably figured by now I pretty much love Arbiter. So in keeping with that, here's some more Arbiter news! Hot off the presses too! To help raise some funds for the release of the upcoming dual album Ironclad/Machinations Arbiter has released a tasty treat for fans of both their music and people like me who enjoy seeing how songs change and form over time from demo's to fully released songs.

Allegaeon - Formshifter

Melodic Death Metal is a genre in which you can find plenty of great stuff, but at the same time, much like almost any other sub genre, it's easy to find band's that are skilled technically speaking but lacking in creative song writing skills. Allegaeon, who are building quite the name for themselves since the release of their debut album Fragments Of Form And Function, are not one of these cookie cutter bands, and they hope to further that idea with the release of their latest album Formshifter.

New Testament Album Details!

I'll admit that Thrash is not my favorite sub genre of metal. However Testament are a one of the standout thrash bands I know of, partly because they are pretty huge, but they are huge for good reason. The band has announced details on the long awaited follow up to 2008's Formation Of Damnation, which is probably my favorite Testament album. Although I haven't heard their early stuff. Anyhow, the band also posted the track listing and release date. The new album is entitled Dark roots Of Earth, and it has a pretty awesome cover.

The Word Alive Post Album Teaser

The Word Alive is a band I've heard of a few times, but never really bothered to check out. They remind me a tad bit of For Today with a bit of The Browning thrown in. Their new album Life Cycles isn't the most exciting thing on my radar, but it'll probably be worth one spin or so.

New Whitechapel Studio Update!

Whitechapel's upcoming self titled release is only sounding better and better with each new thing I hear about it. Now the band have posted a new studio update showing some of the guitar tracking process. unlike the drum studio update, we actually get to hear some new stuff, so it's definitely worth your time if you are a fan, which you should be.

Miseration Have A Stepping Stone Agenda

Miseration have posted the first track from the upcoming album Tragedy Has Spoken, and it is hands down one of their most brutal tracks. This album may be the most aggressive sounding thing they've produced.

First Within The Ruins Studio Update!

Following Whitechapel, Within The Ruins, who also go on tour with Whitechapel tomorrow, posted their first studio update for their upcoming yet to be titled album. There's a little bit of new music to be heard so it's worth checking out and it's pretty funny.

Watch Jordan Perry Make Drumming Look Easy.

If you haven't listened to Derelict's latest album Perpetuation you're missing out on one of the best tech death albums this year. Anyhow, the band have posted two new videos one of which is a drum play through and the second is an interview with drummer Jordan Perry. Jordan's a talented guy and makes this stuff look easy.

First Whitechapel Studio Update!

Whitechapel recently went into the studio (and judging by the fact that they are touring again starting tomorrow, I'm assuming the album is done being recorded and probably is being mixed?) Anyhow, the band posted their first studio video featuring new drummer Ben Harclerode. There isn't any new music in the video, and you don't actually hear any of Ben's drumming, which is somewhat odd, but you get a bit of an interview with him.

Arbiter's Final Update!

If your not as stoked as I am for Aribter's upcoming release, there might be something wrong with you. Maybe you should see a doctor. Or just watch this final update video and maybe things will be alright. Who knows. Either way here's Arbiters studio update! the new album should be landing in a months time and pre-orders should be available soon!

Film Score Friday! John Williams - War Horse

So i had the opportunity to finally watch Spielberg's War Horse earlier this week and I have to say although I wasn't thrilled by it from the trailer, it was actually a pretty good film overall. this semester I took a class entitled The American Film Artist, which is a class that focuses on a single director for a whole semester, this semester happened to be Steven Spielberg and we finished on his most recent film. In class we talked about how this film is Spielberg finally accepting who he is and making a film for himself. That's eseentially what this film is seeing as it's got everything Spielberg loves filmmaking wise. To put it simply, this is possibly the most 'Spielbergian' film yet.

As I Lay Dying Have Begun Recording!

See that there? As I Lay Dying have begun the drum tracking process for their yet to be titled follow up to 2010's The Powerless Rise! The band is usually good about studio updates and keeping the fans informed on some of whats going on so we should get some gems over the course of this recording process!

Mnemic Have Been You.

Mnemic released the first single from their upcoming album Mnemesis. The single is entitled "I've Been You' and is not their heaviest track to date, but it's nice and groovy. The band stated that the album is going to be more melodic so it not being the fastest or heaviest track isn't all that surprising.

New Miseration Coming!

I found Miseration about a month or two ago and became a bit obesessed. The band is pretty much a heavier version of Scar Symmetry with Scar Symmetry's best ex-vocalist at the helm. I should have been on top of this one because I sort of knew it was coming but Msieration recently announced their upcoming album Tragedy Has Spoken, which will follow The Mirroring Shadow. I'm pretty excited for it. They also just announced tha the first single from said album will be posted online May 9th, so stayed tuned for that!

New Allegaeon Track!

Allegaeon released another new track from their upcoming sophomore release Formshifter! It's a pretty sick song so check it out!

Plundering The Depths Of Bandcamp! Cardona - Seasons EP

Djent is a popular ‘genre’ of metal that is both loved and hated. I’m not going to delve into the history of Djent because it’s an oft discussed topic which is fairly easily researched online. I will say that Djent can get very ‘samey’ quickly but there are also gems to be found. I was in the mood for some djenty stuff so on this venture through bandcamp I went searching, and found something really good.
