Jungle Rot Announce New Album!

That right there is the cover art for Jungle Rot's upcoming eighth studio album Terror Regime! There's no more information for it yet, save for a March 19th release date, but it's good to know we've got some good old school death metal to look forward to. Their last album Kill On Command was pretty great, and I got the chance to see them live recently which was awesome. So I'm definitely looking forward to this. Hopefully we get a single soon. New Vildhjarta Teaser!

Vildhjarta's debut album Masstaden made quite a splash for the band in the form of a tidal wave. Djent went through was already on the rise, but these guys put it's sky high. So there's no two ways around it that whatever comes next for the band will be met with pretty high expectations. Even though Thousands Of Evils will only be an EP it's going to have a tough time beating out Masstaden. The real question is will their new material be good enough for those of us no longer shocked by the heavy dissonance they've crafted with their sound? From the previews it doesn't sound like they are changing a whole lot, which is ultimately fine by me, I love Masstaden, but it's always good for a band to push the boundaries of their sound and grow a bit.

Oceano Post New Song 'Slow Murder'!

It's been a crazy ride for Oceano since their last album, but the band is back with a new record and today they've given us a brand new song to hold us over. The song is titled 'Slow Murder' and it'll be on the album Incisions, which doesn't yet have a release date. The song itself is pretty great though. They've added some djentier tones to the guitars, which is not exactly surprising, but the guitar work feels overall like a bit of an improvement. The pseudo clean vocals make take a little growing for me though.

Malevolence Post 2nd Single 'Devoured Unlimited'!

Malevolence's new album Antithetical is shaping up to be a pretty impressive release. Their newest single 'Devoured Unlimited' has been pseudo music video, which is more a collage of images to go with the song. The song itself is pretty great though.

The New Bring Me The Horizon Video Is Pretty Interesting

As a film student I love when a band puts time into their music videos and gets creative, to me it adds another layer to a song, and if done right can really make a song stand out more. Bring Me The Horizon have released a music video for the song 'Shadow Moses' off the upcoming album Sempiternal. From what I can tell the video was shot with twin cameras at slightly different angles to achieve a funky 3D-ish look. It gets a little old by the end of the video, but it's something I can say I haven't seen before, or at least not to this extent. It's a well shot video overall too and the song is pretty catchy, so there's that.

Killswitch Engage 'Disarm The Descent' Details Announced!

Big news for the world of metalcore, titans of the genre Killswitch Engage are set to release thier next album Disarm The Descent on April 2nd, 2013. As most fans know this album is the first album since 2002 to feature original vocalist Jesse Leach after the sad departure of Howard Jones. Although there's really no one else who'd be a better replacement vocalist than the original guy.

O Wretched Man - The Decomposing Shrine

O Wretched Man are a fresh band in the world of metal with only this 3 song EP to their name at the moment. However the ideas they’re expressing on this EP are something to be excited about. The band, while definitely needing a boost in the production department, does a fantastic job blending multiple genres of metal such as Death, Thrash, and minor Core elements. There are also portions of this EP that remind me a lot of Dethklok.

Aegaeon Using Indiegogo To Fund Next Album

Aegaeon are a band who you think would be on a label by now but after a full LP and an incredible EP last year, the band remains Independent. Following the immense success of Protest The Hero, Aegaeon are using indiegogo to try and fund their next LP.

Continents - Idle Hands

Continents are a band skating somewhere between Hardcore, Metalcore, and Deathcore. The band’s first major label album Idle Hands finds them at some times grooving along with fast paced riffs, other times adding some melodic elements or some kind of rough metalcore inspired cleans on a thankfully short few occasions, to heavy breakdown laden hardcore mosh pit friendly side of things. While that may sound like it could make for a messy mash up of sounds, the band actually makes it all work.

Abriosis - Vessel

I can not really say that what Abriosis does with their instruments is anything new to technical death metal, but I do thoroughly enjoy the chaos they create with their music. They have always had a great sense of contrast in that they can combine all sorts of rhythms to make music that is incredibly layered and heavy.

Fall City Fall - Victus

Fall City Fall are a relative newcomer to the chaotic hardcore scene, which has been fantastically pioneered in the last few years by the likes of The Chariot and Dillinger Escape Plan, but new status be damned, Fall City Fall are here to make a statement, and their voice is going to be heard. Their major label debut album Victus is fierce and unrelenting and it's demanding your time.

Top 15 Albums Of 2012!

Well 2012 came and went, and I must say that with the impressive year that was 2011, 2012 was equally if not more so better for metal. I found myself constantly saying this has been a hell of a year for 'insert genre here'. Metal bands must have been trying to write their best albums to accompany the Mayan end of the world. whatever the reason, 2012 was fantastic. Which only made this list harder to pick through. There were plenty of excellent albums I wish I could put on here, but nobody really wants to read a top 30 to 50 albums list anyhow unless it's representing a decade.

(Oh and before I get started, I did a top 5 EP's list if you care to read that first.)

So without further ado, here is what this writer personally believes were the best albums 2012 had to offer:

Moth - Endlessly In Motion

Ever since I finally got around to listening to Gojira and Meshuggah, which unfortunately did not happen until last year as my musical horizon has expanded exponentially since that time, I have been really into ambient yet technically auspicious music. I happened upon the band Moth thanks to twitter, and ever since I have fallen in love with their music. The band only had three or four songs at the time I found them, but I was really excited to see where they would go with it. Thankfully that twitter friendship gave me the opportunity to review the bands’ debut LP Endlessly In Motion and for that I am very grateful.
