The Restitution - Waves

In the ever broadening subgenre of metalcore there is a huge divide between radio friendly cookie cutter bands, and progressive/experimental bands. Bands like Norma Jean and Oh, Sleeper cut their teeth pushing the genre to darker tones and all over the map playing, collections of noise and rhythms that when put together make wonderfully energetic music that’s unafraid to give the listener a wild ride. LA based band The Restitution are doing their best to further that progressive push. Waves is a swinging thundering giant, fighting for your attention and once it has that it does everything it can to keep you guessing what comes next. The album flows very well and the strong writing keeps things from falling into a lull.

The Chariot Are Breaking Up

It's been a rough year in metalcore. UnderOath called it quits earlier this year, there's that whole debacle with As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis, and no one knows the future of the band in that situation at the moment, and today The Chariot posted a video that ambiguously states they are breaking up.

Underoath Premiere A New Song!

Sadly Underoath haven't changed their plans to break up next year, but in the mean time they are releasing a greatest hits album with some new material on it. The band has debuted one new track called 'Sunburnt' which you can find by clicking this. The song is pretty solid, although it's a little 'lighter' sounding than most of the material on their last album.

Underoath To Break Up Next Year

here's a bit of sad news, and a bit unexpected, Underoath are going to call it quits after an Anthology release (featuring two new songs which is nice) and a farewell tour. Underoath was one of the first bands I listened to that set me on the road to metal, so in a way I owe them a lot of thanks for my music taste as it is now. I had feared this day might come when Aaron left the band but I was happy to see them go on without him, but alas it would appear the band feels it's right to break up now. The bands press release doesn't give too many details as too necessarily why they are breaking up, but in any case 15 years, 7 albums, and 1.3 million record sales is quite a solid career. Here's to hoping them the best.

To Speak Of Wolves - Find Your Worth, Come Home

I've been waiting for this release for a while now. I was so taken by To Speak Of Wolves debut album Myself > Letting Go. It channeled Underoath, but with a more aggressive tone and was overall a fantastic debut, that met with a bit of an underwhelming response. One vocalist change and two years later Two Speak Of Wolves are back with their sophomore release entitled Find Your Worth, Come Home. The album continues the sound they established and adds influence from the likes of Oh, Sleeper (and a guest vocal spot from Micah Kinard), Underoath and Norma Jean's newer stuff.

Underoath Re-releases First 3 Albums In A Combo Pack!

Tampa Florida's Underoath, like The Chariot and Norma Jean before them, are re-releasing their first three albums in a 3 CD combo pack for $10 today. It's entitled Play Your Old Stuff. This is a fantastic deal for people who haven't already bought their old stuff, or just found them thanks to their new album or something. Anyhow, check it out.

On a side note I was slightly disappointed because when I read the title for this collection I thought it might be a live album of the 'new' band playing older songs. But alas I was wrong.

Go listen to Oh, Sleeper's new album!

Metalcore group Oh, Sleeper have released a new album titled Children Of Fire. It's a great album, and I plan on doing a formal review of it soon. If you like any of their old stuff, or enjoy bands such as Underoath, Inhale Exhale, or Haste The Day, go listen to their new stuff. It's great.
