New Material In The Works From The Other Members Of As I Lay Dying

Since the whole situation with Tim Lambesis got started the status of the 4 other members of As I Lay Dying has remained unknown until this past few days. While we don't have any real concrete details on what exactly is going on, we know that these four guys are making new music as evidenced by Instagram videos of all the members working on stuff in the studio.

Band Of The Week: I, Of Helix

I, Of Helix fall somewhere between progressive metalcore and progressive deathcore, much in the same way Within The Ruins does, and like Within The Ruins I, Of Helix places a huge emphasis on the instrumentation and writing and it's works to a great extent. Their sound is very high energy and their great musicianship shines through the album. They draw clear influences from bands like August Burns Red, Whitechapel, and as previously mentioned Within The Ruins.

Demon Hunter Post New Song 'I Will Fail You'

Demon Hunter posted a song last week entitled 'Artificial light' which basically nailed down the type of song we were to expect from them. Today we got a new song entitled 'I Will Fail You', which was about the easier troll set up Metalsucks has ever been given, but anyhow, this is basically going to be this albums 'Driving Nails', 'Heartstrings Come Undone', 'Tomorrow Never Comes' etc... They typically have at least one song that's all clean vocals and supposed to be the more emotionally heavy song on the album. Demon Hunter aren't reinventing the wheel with this album it seems, but I'm still intrigued to hear it.

Norma Jean - Wrongdoers

Norma Jean has always been a bright light in metalcore. The band’s existence has spawned some of the best music in metalcore and in a some way Norma Jean opened the gates for the fantastic band that is/was The Chariot. Norma Jean’s last album Meridional was well received by many, but something about the album didn’t quite click with fans overall. It is in no way a band album, and it features some of my favorite songs such as ‘Deathbed Atheist’ but overall something about Meridional felt out of place. It wasn’t as solid overall as Redeemer and it didn’t quite hit the high notes of The Anti-Mother. Now though we’re met with the release of Wrongdoers, and this album is nothing short of fantastic. This is the album fans have been craving.

Band Of The Week: Fall City Fall

In light of one of the best chaotic hardcore bands announcing their break up recently, I wanted to showcase a new chaotic hardcore band who has a lot of promise. That band is Fall City Fall. I did do a review of their album a little while back, but it's a killer album and people should be listening to them.

The Chariot Are Breaking Up

It's been a rough year in metalcore. UnderOath called it quits earlier this year, there's that whole debacle with As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis, and no one knows the future of the band in that situation at the moment, and today The Chariot posted a video that ambiguously states they are breaking up.

Liferuiner - Future Revisionists

Liferuiner is a band I never truly enjoyed in the past. Their ‘brocore’ sound just felt like they were trying to cash in on the success of Emmure and The Acacia Strain. It didn’t help that they had some pretty bad song titles like ‘A Ticket To The Pussy Crusher’ ‘The Alphabet Never Really Made Sense To Me’ and ‘Suck My Dick’. Not a fantastic start. I was definitely a bit hesitant when their new album Future Revisionists came to me. Before listening I did some research and found out that this band is almost entirely new, save for the vocalist, and that they’ve taken a different approach to their music. This alone intrigued me enough to start the album and from the very first moment it starts you can tell you are dealing with an entirely different beast now.

Better Left Unsaid - Self Titled

I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect with this album going into it. This is an album you can’t really judge by its rather simple cover. As it turns out Better Left Unsaid is a band that falls somewhere between the New Wave Of American Heavy Metal and Metalcore. The first track, Mr. Dark is a pretty solid song, and a good opener to get you familiar with the style the band is going for. The second track ‘My Wounds’ is what really got me more interested though. The down tuned repeated chunky riff in the beginning is darker than the opener and the ominous tone the track has just feels really cool.

NEW AUGUST BURNS RED.

Day = Made. August Burns red have released a new song from their upcoming album Rescue & Restore. The song is titled 'Fault Line' and while it's a bit on the standard fare side of things for August Burns Red, it's a really solid song overall. These guys are easily one of the most consistent bands out there. This album is probably the one I'm most looking forward to this year.

August Burns Red have been working on a new album for a little while, and we've finally gotten some details on this upcoming beast. The title of the album is Rescue & Restore and The PRP have listed the tracklisting for the album.

Northlane - Singularity

Australia has a plethora of bands producing top quality metal these days, and Sydney is no stranger to the metal scene. One of Sydney’s best up and comers Northlane have given us a new album this year, entitled Singularity, and it is chock full of djenty atmospheric metalcore goodness. Northlane help populate the ever popular djent ‘genre’ with a style similar to Volumes, Erra, Elitist, and many many more. Yes, djent is the ‘in’ trend. No, Northlane doesn’t tread any new water in djent, they do not do much of anything here to really try and separate themselves from the crowded genre they have chosen. But in the end all that matters is if they have crafted a listenable album, and in short, yes. Yes they did.

Heaven Shall Burn Post A Video For 'Hunters Will Be Hunted'!

German metalcore/melodeath band Heaven Shall Burn returned this year with their new album Veto, and today they posted a music video for the song 'Hunters Will Be Hunted'. The song is pretty solid, I have yet to really give the new album a good listen, but I'm intrigued now. The music video is pretty interesting, not as violent as I was expecting it to be, but really well shot.

Killswitch Engage 'Disarm The Descent' Details Announced!

Big news for the world of metalcore, titans of the genre Killswitch Engage are set to release thier next album Disarm The Descent on April 2nd, 2013. As most fans know this album is the first album since 2002 to feature original vocalist Jesse Leach after the sad departure of Howard Jones. Although there's really no one else who'd be a better replacement vocalist than the original guy.

Continents - Idle Hands

Continents are a band skating somewhere between Hardcore, Metalcore, and Deathcore. The band’s first major label album Idle Hands finds them at some times grooving along with fast paced riffs, other times adding some melodic elements or some kind of rough metalcore inspired cleans on a thankfully short few occasions, to heavy breakdown laden hardcore mosh pit friendly side of things. While that may sound like it could make for a messy mash up of sounds, the band actually makes it all work.

Fall City Fall - Victus

Fall City Fall are a relative newcomer to the chaotic hardcore scene, which has been fantastically pioneered in the last few years by the likes of The Chariot and Dillinger Escape Plan, but new status be damned, Fall City Fall are here to make a statement, and their voice is going to be heard. Their major label debut album Victus is fierce and unrelenting and it's demanding your time.

As I Lay Dying - Awakened

So As I Lay Dying hit the 10 year mark last year, but thankfully they didn't shell out an album real quick to mark the occasion, instead they released an EP with three pretty solid new songs on it. This gave us a taste of what would be coming on the next album and satiated our palates for the time being. Now the time has come for their fifth studio album, Awakened, to be released. So obviously with a band this big, the question is ‘how does it hold up?’

Defining Human - Defining Human

Metal is a genre that really loves their labels. From heavy metal to slamming brutal death metal, we’ve got labels for bands that almost seem unnecessary at times even. Defining Human are a band who are most easily placed into the label of progressive deathcore, but I feel it doesn’t do justice to the heavy influences they take from the likes of say technical death metal.  Yes the clean vocals of metalcore are there, and the classic deathcore chugs are effortlessly found, but there are portions of the album that could easily be classified as Technical Death Metal, and they work really well with the progressive portions of the album.

A Hero A Fake Studio Update!

I remember getting a copy of A Hero A Fake's previous album Let Oceans Lie and being pretty impressed with it. The band play a pretty solid style of progressive metalcore on par with many top tier metalcore bands. I have yet to check out their first release Volatile, but I will probably get around to it. None the less, the band have posted a studio update of the work they've done in the studio for their upcoming release The Future Again!

Oh Hey, Unearth Made A Video!

Unearth made a video for their song 'Watch It Burn' from last years Darkness In The Light. Which is my favorite track from a pretty solid album overall. The video itself isn't anything amazing, a collage of death and destruction intercut with the band playing, but the song is awesome.
