Band Of The Week: The Last Felony

I'll admit I've been awful about weekly articles in the past, I just get wrapped up in other things and I have a problem keeping up. But alas, I shall give it a try again. I kind of tried this before although I limited myself to bandcamp previously. Now I'm just going to try and find bands I feel deserve more attention and give them a little bit of a spotlight on the site here.

Jungle Rot Release Bass Demo For 'Pronounced Dead'!

It's pretty common knowledge that the bassist of any band is typically the most underappreciated member, unless he is really stand out the bass player never gets love. So it's nice to see a band do a demo focused solely on the bass player. Jungle Rot have done that with their song 'Pronounced Dead'. Bassist James Genenz gives us a play through, and while the video is geared at people wanting to learn how to play the song, it's a good song to just listen to if anything. I do like how consistent Victory has been with doing these play through videos. It's nice to see a band share how they play their songs.

Chosen Post Video For 'Instinct'!

Irish metal band Chosen have posted a live in the studio video for the song 'Instinct' off their debut album Resolution. This song is pretty awesome. I got the chance to review the album over at Emurg, and that should be posted int he coming days.

Heaven Shall Burn Post A Video For 'Hunters Will Be Hunted'!

German metalcore/melodeath band Heaven Shall Burn returned this year with their new album Veto, and today they posted a music video for the song 'Hunters Will Be Hunted'. The song is pretty solid, I have yet to really give the new album a good listen, but I'm intrigued now. The music video is pretty interesting, not as violent as I was expecting it to be, but really well shot.

The Unconscious Mind - Where Philosophers Fall

The Unconscious Mind is a project from the guitarist Simon ClĂ©roux of technical death metal band Derelict, who made my top albums list last year with their second full length Perpetuation. The Unconscious Mind differs from Derelict in a lot of ways, although when you’re looking for it you can see similarities in the playing style in the two bands. Simon is an incredibly talented player, and the people he teamed up with on this album are of equal measure on their respective instruments.

Within The Ruins - Elite

I remember entirely forgetting that Within The Ruins had an album coming out, regardless of the fact that I made a few posts about it. The release date snuck up on me and while I did listen to the album a ton that first week, I never got around to writing a review about it. I’m not entirely sure why, but maybe I can apply the better late than never rule to this.

New Black Dahlia Murder Song!

The Black Dahlia Murder have released both the album art and a single from their upcoming album Everblack. This track, titled 'Into The Everblack', isn't mind blowingly new for the bands style, but it's got a cool symphonic build up to quite an awesome solo. I hopped onto the BDM train a bit late with Ritual being the first album of theirs that really caught my attention. If this track is any indication, Everblack should be a favorite album of mine this year. Unfortuantely we have to wait until June 11th for it to release. I imagine we'll get another single before that time comes.

Dark Sermon - In Tongues

I doubt Johnny Crowder would really remember my face, but I’ve seen him a handful of times at my part time job and I geeked out a little knowing he was in a metal band around my area. At the time his band was still called In Reference To A Sinking Ship, and they had had a pretty good presence in the Florida metal scene as far as being a solid opener for shows goes. Then they changed their name to Dark Sermon, which is admittedly less of a mouthful and still a great name (Honestly I’m not sure how that name wasn’t already taken, but it’s good for these guys), and then announced a debut full length. Shortly thereafter they got signed to eOne/Good Fight Records (and Nuclear Blast for Europe) and now here we are with the release of In Tongues. It’s been a hell of a year for these guys so far.

Help Insurrection Fund Their Next Album!

Insurrection has already achieved their funding goal of $2500 Canadian dollars for their next album Prototype, but they still have 34 days left on their funding campaign and any additional funds will only help make things better for the band. Indigogo has become a popular route it seems for bands to fund their albums after the immense success of Protest The Hero's campaign. Aegaeon did a similar campaign recently, although it appears it wasn't as successful as it should have been (I pitched in $25, but they only raised about $1200, which surprised me a little.) Anyhow, Insurrection are grea,t and their last album Fracture is a solid album.

Some of the perks for donating include having a song written about a topic of your choosing, having a personal show, and other more typical things like their discography, t-shirt+CD combos, etc...

Victory Records Signed A Black Metal Band!

Victory Records doesn't particularly have the best reputation amogn the more extreme subgenres of metal, but they've signed a Symphonic Black Metal outfit named Erimha, and if the announcement video is anything to go by these guys sound pretty great! Their debut album is set to release sometime this summer. I'm definitely looking forward to this one.

As They Burn Made A Video For 'F.R.E.A.K.S'!

As They Burn have posted a music video for the song 'F.R.E.A.K.S.' from their latest album Will, Love, Live. The song is pretty good, although not my favorite of the album, and it features Aaron Matts of  Betraying The Martyrs, who are pretty great, and Franki Palmeri of Emmure, who I'm not particularly excited by, but he does alright on this track.

Jungle Rot Post A Music Video For 'Terror Regime'!

Jungle Rot have posted a new music video for the title track off of their latest album Terror Regime. The video itself isn't all that interesting in terms of content, but it's well shot and is a nice companion to a pretty great song, so it's worth checking out if only to hear the track.
